Why would anyone go to college to participate in rodeos? The answers might surprise you. You will hear about a powerhouse rodeo program at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. The university, which is part of The Texas A&M University System, produces some of the finest professional rodeo participants in the world, and it also provides an excellent education.

Ross Guieb, a retired colonel in the U.S. Army, helped stand up Army Futures Command, a massive reorganization designed to accelerate military modernization. He is now the executive director of the Bush Combat Development Complex on the RELLIS campus of The Texas A&M University System. Guieb said his goal is to make sure future soldiers have what they need to “fight and win convincingly.”

M. Katherine Banks became Texas A&M University’s 26th president June 1, 2021.As dean of A&M’s College of Engineering, Banks helped to secure the management contract for Los Alamos National Laboratory. She also helped create the George H.W. Bush Combat Development Complex at the RELLIS campus. System leaders expect her to do great things for the university, just as she did for the College of Engineering.

Perched on 2,100 acres of a former Army Air Base in Bryan is the Texas A&M System’s RELLIS campus. It is home of the newest academic venture in Texas, offering associate and bachelor degrees. It also will be a place for cutting-edge research such as hypersonic and laser technologies. Also on the property is the George H.W. Bush Combat Development Complex, where soldiers will test battlefield communications, autonomous vehicles and other equipment as they try to solve the world’s most complex problems.

JOIDES Resolution, Texas A&M faculty and students drill ocean floor to understand life on Earth

Texas A&M has been the science operator of the research vessel JOIDES Resolution since 1985. The drilling ship, which is used by the International Ocean Discovery Program, takes samples from the ocean floor to better understand how the planet works and how it supports life. Scientists also can see how the climate has affected life as the planet has changed over millions of years.

The VOOM Foundation is made up of volunteers including: doctors, nurses, health workers and a lot of college students who share a desire to make life better for people in far-away Nigeria.

VOOM’s founder is Dr. Vincent Ohaju, a native of Nigeria and a trauma surgeon in Texas.
